TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Court records are shedding new light on the investigation into a home invasion that turned deadly.
The deposition says Willis Sample and his wife Edna had come home from grocery shopping at Publix on Nov. 30 when he was approached by two men while taking the bags inside the home. The suspects reportedly forced him inside, holding him and his wife against their will, demanded money and guns.
The deposition says the suspects took some guns from the home, $600 from Mr. Sample, and Edna Sample’s purse, as well as their 2005 gold Grand Marquis.
Willis Sample reportedly suffered from the heart attack while calling 911. He was taken to DCH and pronounced dead at 7:14 p.m.
The coroner reported his fatal heart attack was caused by the stress from the robbery, and ruled his death a homicide.
21-year-old Donald Augustus “Doo Doo” Clark, Jr. was arrested Friday after he was identified as a possible suspect. The deposition says he was read his Miranda rights and confessed to his involvement in the incident.
Investigators report finding probable cause to arrest Clark and charge him with murder, robbery in the first degree, kidnapping in the first degree and theft in the first degree.
Police told us Mrs. Sample was taken to the hospital as well, but was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
