CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade has asked the State Bureau of Investigation to look into allegations of a corrections officer assaulting a fellow officer and an inmate at the Calhoun County Jail.
Wade says on Nov. 27, an inmate assaulted a corrections officer around 5 p.m. After the inmate was pepper sprayed and handcuffed, an officer allegedly assaulted that inmate, then one of his fellow officers.
“This behavior is inconsistent with our training and policy,” Wade said. “I have the utmost faith in our corrections officers. However, I will not tolerate or allow an officer to act in such a manner.”
Both officers are on administrative leave until the investigation is over.
The names of those reportedly involved are being withheld until the investigation is complete.
