TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — The Bama Belle, a storied paddle-wheel riverboat, is back on the water after a four-year absence.
The boat has a new owner, who is ready to begin offering limited cruises, which will come to good news to many as the vessel has been a part of the Tuscaloosa river scene for 15 years.
City leaders told CBS42 news that they are thrilled to get the Bama Belle back, and are hoping it will increase tourism.
“With having this ability to be able to go on a dinner boat, or a party boat or whatever means you may have to rent The Bama Belle to have that accessibility of cruising down the river,” said Sonya McKinstry from the Tuscaloosa City Council. So we are excited and we definitely want to see it back.”
The new owner says he wants to rent the boat for private events, and the city is looking into the possibility of leasing a portion of the dock to them for that purpose.
