HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — A church plans to a hold a prayer service at Homewood City Hall in hopes of bringing unity. This has been planned after protests started over video of a police officer detaining a woman in the Walmart store on Lakeshore Parkway.

Homewood Police announced the officer did not violate state law or departmental policy in his process. They also said the officer was acting in good faith while attempting to investigate a felony theft.

The Rock Church is holding the prayer service. Pastor Michael McClure, Jr. says they are praying for the family and against “the spirit that keeps trying to rise in our communities.”

The event starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
