Etowah County deputy trainee charged with electronic solicitation of a child, sending obscene photos

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — An Etowah County deputy trainee is no longer with the department after he was arrested and charged with electronic solicitation of a child and sending obscene photos, Sheriff Todd Entrekin said.

20-year-old Trenton Wesley Hamilton of Gadsden is charged with one count of electronic solicitation of a child and one county of transmitting obscene material. Both charges are felonies.

Entrekin says the crimes reportedly began in September, and that Hamilton was using an electronic device to entice a child for sexual purpose and send obscene photos.

“A priority of this Sheriff’s Office is to always protect those who cannot protect themselves. This sheds a black eye on the Office and law enforcement,” Sheriff Entrekin said. “As soon as we were notified of the crime we took quick action to relieve him of his duties. The investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing. Additional charges may be pending.”
