BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The city of Birmingham will provide a warm place to stay as frigid temperatures are moving in.
Thursday and Friday the Salvation Army will provide a meal the 2130 11th Ave N both Thursday and Friday. Following they will be shuttled to shelters. The men will be staying at the Changed Lives Christian Center and the women at the Avondale Samaritan Place.
The city is asking people to show on between 4:30 p.m.- 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army.
Michael Harris has been homeless from for six months. He said he was used to do environmental service work. He then had some leg issues and could not continue to work, now he’s on disability.
“I stay to myself. I don’t bother nobody, and I just like to stay to myself,” said Harris.
Harris says spends a lot of his time outdoors but Thursday when it gets very cold he’s seeking shelter.
“The good Lord gave me senses now I am not going to be staying out in the cold. They are going to have places where you can go to,” said Harris.
