BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Ms. Christy Ginn from Williams Intermediate School was surprised with a One Class at a Time grant this week! Now she has an extra $1,000 to spend on her special education classroom.
Williams has a special love for her current students. There is one student in particular that she is looking forward to teaching.
“Having a child with a special needs, as well as loving to teach my guys, I want them to have everything. And writing this grant was such an easy way. It’s an easy process. It’s an easy grant to apply for. It’s such an easy way to get materials for my kids,” said Ginn.
Ginn is planning to use the money to improve the school’s Sensory Room
“It’s a place where not just my students, but other students in the building, need a break, they can come in here and relax,” Ginn said.
The room helps students get much needed sensory input that helps them regroup and refocus. The $1,000 grant will help that room be even better.
“That few hundred dollars that you get each year is great. But a thousand dollars allows an opportunity to buy big pieces of equipment that you would never have a chance to buy otherwise,” said Ginn.
