Safety tips for propane users this winter

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s important to stay warm as the cold weather of winter approaches, but it is even more important to stay safe.

The Propane Gas Association of New England is encouraging people who use propane to heat their homes or run appliances to follow these safety procedures:

  • Check and clean chimneys, vent connectors, and propane tanks for damage or blockage caused by ice or snow.
  • Keep path to propane tanks as clear as possible.
  • Never use a portable generator or any outdoor propane appliances indoors or in enclosed areas
  • Never use your stove for space heating

The association also reminds anyone who smells gas inside or outside their home to immediately leave and call 911 or a local fire department.
