NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Monday, Dec. 19 will be the busiest mailing and shipping day for holiday packages, letters, and cards.
The busiest delivery day is expected just a few days later on Dec. 22. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 30 million packages will be delivered that day alone with a total of 750 million for the holiday season.
Susan Wright, spokesperson for the postal service, said their processing plant in Nashville has been very busy.
“We consider our holiday season starting right after Thanksgiving now with Cyber Monday. Shipping has become even more important, and we anticipate at least a 12 percent increase in package volume this year alone. That makes it double what it was four years ago,” Wright said.
She said customers should be aware of the holiday shipping deadlines, which are as follows:
- Fri., Dec. 16 Military mail for overseas bases
- Tues., Dec. 20 First-Class Mail
- Wed., Dec. 21 Priority Mail
- Fri., Dec. 23 Priority Mail Express
“We will deliver Priority Mail Express every day, including Christmas Day, and customers will note we’re out seven days a week this year out delivering packages, so you’ll see our carriers out on Sundays,” Wright added.
Post Offices nationwide will be open Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, but most will close at noon.
