HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — On December 8, Hoover Police responded to a shooting in front of the InTown Suites on Southpark Drive, where the victim reported that he and a friend went to Montgomery to pick up two acquaintances. The victim said that while he was driving to Hoover, one of the backseat passengers pulled a handgun and demanded property from him. The victim pulled onto Southpark Drive and the armed suspect shot him in the leg before both suspects fled the scene in the victim’s car.
Montgomery Police recovered the stolen vehicle on Friday afternoon. Alonzo Dundra Rawlinson of Montgomery was driving the car when it was stopped by police. Montgomery detectives relayed this information to detectives in Hoover, who then met with the victim. The victim identified Rawlinson as the person who had shot him and stole his car.
Rawlinson has been charged with Assault in the First Degree with a $30,000 bond, Robbery in the First Degree with a $60,000 bond and Theft of Property in the First Degree with a $30,000 bond. He was also charged with Receiving Stolen Property in the First Degree in Montgomery County.
Rawlinson is in custody at the Montgomery County Jail and will be transferred to the Shelby County Jail once he posts bond on the Receiving Stolen Property charge.
