Tuscaloosa judges prepare to step down after long tenures on the bench

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Two Tuscaloosa County District Court Judges are planning to hang up their robes in the near future after many years of public service.

Judges Jim Guin and Joel Chandler are both retiring at the end of their terms. This Tuesday morning, it was standing room only on the sixth floor at the county courthouse as officials held a reception and dozens of family, friends and colleagues in law enforcement and in the court system came out to wish the judges well.

Guin told CBS42 News that it has been an honor to serve Tuscaloosa County over the past 30 years.

“It makes me feel appreciated that people have come by to say you’ve done a good job,” Guin said. “It makes me feel good that I have friends that have acknowledged whats been going on in District Court all these years.”

Both judges plan to step down from the bench on January 13.
