HELENA, Ala. (WIAT) — A bond hearing for a Shelby County couple accused of locking their adoptive teenage son in their basement will be continued at a later date. A judge was set to hear a bond reduction request from Richard and Cynthia Kelly.
The Helena couple is being held on $1 million bond each for Aggravated Child Abuse charges. It comes after a 14-year-old in their care was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
Attorneys for the couple are asking they be tried together. A preliminary hearing for Richard Kelly is scheduled for January 4.
