TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A new parking deck is coming to downtown Tuscaloosa in the near future. The Tuscaloosa city council voted to approve the new parking deck Tuesday night.
The four story deck will add at least 250 parking spaces to the downtown area on 4th St.
It will be constructed between Greensboro Avenue and 23rd Ave behind the Trustmark Bank in Temerson Square.
City councilman Kip Tyner says it will improve parking downtown significantly.
“They can park in the deck and that will leave all these spaces open for shoppers. Or people who are looking to dine. I guarantee you everybody knows someone who has circled the block one time who couldn’t find a place to park and went somewhere else. It will be a deterrent from downtown,” Tyner said.
The city is expected to pitch in $1 million for the new parking deck. It will be the second parking deck downtown.
