2 inmates escaped from Jasper City Jail; both recaptured

JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: Both are back in custody.

ORIGINAL: According to Jasper Police Chief J.C. Poe, two inmates escaped from the Jasper City Jail around 10 p.m. on Monday.

It is reported that Zackary Casey and Justin Helton pushed past a female guard to escape. The guard did not suffer any serious injuries.

Helton was recaptured around 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning after officers searched wooded areas for hours. Casey is still at large.

Escape warrants have been obtained for both suspects.
