PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE DEC. 20: The City of Pelham Tuesday released updated recycling options:
The company responsible for picking up recyclables in Pelham has ended their contract with the city. We spoke to Pelham’s city councilman Rick Hayes about the impact this will have on residents.
He says the company Trash Taxi has been working without a contract since November. Since Trash Taxi would not continue their services without a contract, the city of Pelham had to find another provider.
“What this this means for residents today is that they can still put out both containers, still both will be picked up. It’s not an issue as far as the trash and recycling being taken away,” Hayes explained. “The issue is that nothing is being taken to the recycling center in downtown or in Birmingham at the moment.”
The city has hired a new garbage service to take Trash Taxi’s place. The company is called Advanced Disposal and they will start in February.
