BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Jimmie Hale Mission is reminding the community to sponsor the holiday meals this Christmas season. It only takes $1.95 to provide a meal to the hungry and homeless.
Tony Cooper, with The Jimmie Hale Mission, says that a $1.95 donation not only sponsors and meal, but it also provides hope.
“We become a temporary home for those who are separated from their home right now. And we try to become kind of a surrogate family for them, and a temporary home until they can get their lives back in order so that next year they can be home for the holidays,” Cooper said.
There are many different ways that people can help.
“Whether it’s $1.95 which sponsors a meal, or $20 sponsors a night’s shelter plus three meals. Volunteers can help by delivering meals on Christmas Eve. A lot of people get involved by teaching their kids the true meaning of Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas was about that first gift that God gave us,” said Cooper.
