FULTONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — A special education teacher from Fultondale Elementary School has an $1,000 to spend on her students. The One Class at a Time team surprised Ms. Lindsay Wiseman earlier this week. She was practically speechless! Soon she will be buying new teaching materials that will help students with dyslexia improve their reading skills. She says it will have a big impact for years to come.
Helping her students improve their reading skills is what pushed Wiseman to apply for the grant.
“I’m going through a training right now specifically on how to teach reading to students with dyslexia. There are a lot of specific, very cool multi-sensory materials that go along with that program,” Wiseman said. “I plan to use this grant money to purchase more of those multi-sensory materials so I can provide very specific needed intervention to students who have reading deficits.”
These supplies will help her for years to come. She says watching her students grow and learn motivates her every day.
“Being able to see students make progress and to see them feel successful, that’s the best part – it makes it worth it every day,” Wiseman said.
