WEST BLOCTON, Ala. (WIAT) — According to the district attorney, Michael Jones, a teacher at West Blocton High School, has been charged with one count of school employee having sex with a student under 19.
Jones was arrested on Tuesday. He is also facing two counts of sexual contact with a student under 19.
Jones has made bond, set at $100,000 and been released from the Bibb County Jail.
UPDATE: The superintendent for Bibb County Schools has released a statement:
Michael Jones, a teacher at West Blocton High School, was placed on administrative leave on September 16, 2016 after school officials received allegations of an inappropriate relationship, including sexual contact with a student. Following an investigation led by the Bibb County Sheriff’s department, Michael Jones was indicted on Friday, December 9 and arrested on Tuesday, December 13 on this charge and others discovered during the investigation. Jones has been employed as a teacher at West Blocton High School since 2004. Upon his release from jail, the superintendent and school board will address his employment status with the Bibb County School System.
