2nd suspect in Hoover InTown Suites shooting arrested

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Hoover Police say the second suspect in the shooting that happened last Thursday in front of the Southpark Drive InTown Suites has been arrested.

The victim told investigators he and a friend went to Montgomery and picked up two acquaintances. As he drove into Hoover, one of the suspects in the back seat pulled out a handgun and demanded property from him.

The victim pulled onto Southpark Drive, and the suspect shot him in the leg. Both suspects then fled in the victim’s vehicle.

The vehicle was found in Montgomery the next day. Alonzo Dundra Rawlinson was arrested and charged with Assault 1st degree, Robbery 1st degree, and Theft of Property 1st degree.

The second suspect was identified by detectives earlier this week, and arrested today in Montgomery by the United States Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is identified as Dontaz Jamark Kelly-Lawery, 20, of Montgomery. He’s charged with robbery in the 1st and theft of property in the 1st. He is currently in the Hoover City Jail and will be transferred to the Shelby County Jail later Friday evening.
