BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect has been arrested after he was found inside the victim’s home.
Before 3 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a report of a burglary that was in progress at a residence in the 7200 block of Taylors Ferry Road. The homeowner reports that when he arrived home, he found a car in his driveway that he did not recognize. The homeowner then went to a nearby church parking lot and called 911.
Deputies found the front door open when they arrived. They found 52-year-old Donald Keith Southall inside. Southall told the deputies that he was friends with the homeowner and had been given permission to be in the home. The homeowner told deputies that he had never seen the man before and did not know him.
Donald Keith Southall of Bessemer was arrested for burglary in the third degree and was found to be in possession of cocaine during a search, so he was also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was released pending court proceedings on a $7,500 bond.
