BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Santa Claus is coming to town! This means it is the perfect time of year to help your child develop “nice list” dental habits, and our go-to pediatric dentist Dr. Angelica Rohner has some fun ideas.
Rohner recommends reminding your children that part of being on the “nice list” is brushing and flossing twice daily.
“Lazy brushing and rushing are things that put you on the naughty list. Remember, Santa is watching! ” Rohner said.
She says caring for your child’s teeth is one of the most precious gifts you can give them.
“Part of that is taking your child to the dentist to keep their mouth healthy,” Rohner said.
“Children get teeth very early in life. Pediatric dentists can help parents answer questions, such as; when do I brush my child’s teeth, what do I use to brush my child’s teeth, how often do I brush, do I use fluoride,” explained Rohner.
If you have or plan to watch Rudolph with the kids this season, it’s a great time to bring up brushing habits! The American Dental Association has a printable happy and healthy holiday brushing chart with Hermey the Elf that makes daily dental care a game, not a chore.
If you are looking for stocking stuffers that encourage healthy brushing with a twist of fun, or prizes for completing a goal on the brushing chart, Dr. Rohner provided us with a shopping list:
❑ Fun colored toothbrushes
❑ Flavored toothpaste
❑ Flavored floss
❑ Water flossers
❑ Kids mouthwashes
