(WIAT) — E-cigarette devices are once again under the gun. A U.S. senator is calling for the federal government to consider recalling the electronic devices.
Senator Charles Schumer says the e-cigs are ticking time bombs. He says they continue to cause injuries including severe burns and faulty lithium-ion batteries are seen as the likely culprits.
Just this weekend, a fire from an electronic cigarette forced a plane to make an emergency landing in Arkansas.
The FDA says it is reviewing e-cigarettes. So far, there have been 66 e-cigarette explosions in 2015 and early 2016.
The industry maintains e-cigarettes are safe when used properly.
