17-year-old killed in Hueytown; suspect still at large

HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified 17-year-old Steven Colt Coggins of McCalla as the victim who was killed in the shooting.

Officials are releasing the name and photo of the 21-year-old suspect in Coggins’ death in hopes it will help bring him into custody. He is identified as Deion Dewayne Jones of Dolomite. He is wanted on two counts of capital murder in connection with Coggins’ death, and already had an active felony assault warrant out for his arrest. He is considered armed and dangerous. The two counts result from shooting into an occupied vehicle and fatally shooting someone during a robbery. The U.S. Marshals are currently assisting with the search.

If you know anything about the whereabouts of Jones, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 254-7777 or the Hueytown police department at 491-3523.

ORIGINAL: One suspect is on the loose and one is in custody after a deadly shooting Tuesday on Carver Avenue in Hueytown.

Police say both the shooter and victim fled. The victim was then found dead in Tuscaloosa County.

The search is likely going to resume Wednesday morning near the area of Allison Bonnet Memorial Drive. Police are not releasing anything about why this happened right now, but it does appear they know who they are looking for.
