BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE FEB 14: Birmingham police have released new information in the Monday night homicide in the Thomas community.Police
The victim has been identified as Victor DeWayne Eaton, 41 years old. Detectives learned from Eaton’s girlfriend that he was supposed to go to the store and then come home. A neighbor reported hearing a gunshot outside his house, then seeing Eaton lying on the ground outside when he looked out the window.
Officials have not determined a motive yet.
Police are investigating a homicide that took place on the 400 block of Florida Avenue in the Thomas community, according to a release from the department.
Police arrived at the location at 7:18 p.m. to find a black male lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound on the right side of his body. Birmingham Fire and Rescue took the victim to UAB Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives reportedly learned that the victim was on a short trip to the store, when a neighbor heard a gunshot outside of his home and saw the victim on the ground.
At this time, no motive has been established and there is no suspect in custody.
