This Day In History-Black History Month Edition: February 13th

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — On this day in black history in 1923, the first black professional basketball team, “The Renaissance,” was organized.

In 1957, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference organized a New Orleans meeting with Martin Luther King Jr. as president.

Thirteen years later in 1970, the New York Stock Exchange admitted its first black member, Joseph Searles.
