BLOUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — J.B. Pennington High School and Blountsville Elementary are closed for the rest of this week after a fire at the high school Tuesday morning.
The high school’s principal tells us officials think the fire started in the media room of the library and spread. He said there is currently four feet of water on the first floor of the school due to a water main burst.
Seven fire departments responded to the blaze, the Blount County 911 said while expressing appreciation for the first responders who remain on the scene checking for hot spots.
Classes will resume April 3rd. Faculty will be working to relocate the high school students, as the library is a total loss and most classrooms sustained water and smoke damage.
A scheduled ACT date will also be moved. No one was hurt in the fire.
