Police are investigating after a neighbor found a body in an alley Wednesday morning in southwest Birmingham near the 1400 block of 19th Street SW.
A man named Shawn who lives in the neighborhood who did not want to be on camera said he found body before eight this Wednesday morning in the alley, and told his mother to call 911. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Marlon Arrington.
Police say the Arrington had been found with multiple gunshot wounds. An assault rifle and multiple spent shell casings were found next to him.
Police say residents told detectives they heard men arguing in the area last night around 11 p.m. and heard gunfire erupt shortly after. They told investigators they saw a black vehicle flee the scene, but didn’t call police at the time because of frequent shootings in the area.
Kathy Steward who’s visiting a friend in the neighborhood said she heard multiple shots last night and saw the body Wednesday morning.
“I ducked down behind the couch watching TV. I asked if he was going call the police he said he heard shots around here all the time so he didn’t call the police and we found out this morning there was body in the alley,” said Steward.
Police say the shooting was not a random act. Investigators say based on evidence at the scene it appears that Arrington and someone else fired shots at each other.
