BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE MAY 23, 2017: The Birmingham PD says the DA’s office ruled this case justifiable.
A man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in the Collegeville housing project.
The victim’s mother identified him as Ta’Narius Moore. She said he was 25 years old and had two young children.
“A part of me just left. I feel so empty and hurt,” said Sherie Moore, the victim’s mother. “They took my son from his sons, and I’m tired of it — gun violence.”
Moore described her son as a kind, loving man who was passionate about rap music.
According to Lt. Sean Edwards with the Birmingham Police Department, the victim and suspect were involved in a longstanding feud, and ran into each other in the neighborhood when they started arguing Wednesday.
He said the argument escalated, and the victim was shot several times.
“This is something that I’m used to seeing other families go through,” Moore said. “To witness this, and this being my family– my son? I’m hurt.”
The suspect is not in custody.
Edwards said were witnesses to the shooting; police are asking anyone who knows anything to contact them or CrimeStoppers at 254-7777.
