BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting that took place this afternoon, according to Lt. Edwards with the department.
Police have marked off a scene on the 200 block of Rose Drive in the Roebuck area. At this time, there is no word on the severity of injuries, but at least one person has been confirmed as a victim of this shooting.
According to Edwards, the police identified themselves to the victim, and as they were in the process of identifying themselves, the victim began to shoot. During an exchange of gunfire, the victim was struck and transported to UAB Hospital.
The victim is recovering at UAB Hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to Edwards.
