1 person dead after deputy-involved shooting in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE 7/19: The Jefferson County Coroner’s office has released the identity of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday.

Daniel Reid, 32, is a white male from Pinson, Ala. Reid was injured around 6:30 p.m., before passing away at 7:08 p.m.

7/18 10 PM UPDATE:

Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a call at a residence off Clay Palmerdale Road reporting that a landlord’s son was threatening tenants with a gun. Christian tells CBS 42 when deputies arrived, the man, who they described as a large man, was combative to them from the start. He tells us the man, who was in his 30s, was tased but was unresponsive to the tasers. Christian said the suspect was reportedly able to wrestle a taser away from a deputy and used it on one of the deputies. According to Christian, a deputy fired two shots at him. The man fell, but later advanced again, prompting the deputy to fire a third shot, killing the man.

All the officers involved are okay, Christian says. This story will be updated as we work to learn more.

ORIGINAL: According to Charles Webster, the mayor of the City of Clay, one person is dead after an officer involved shooting incident off Clay-Palmerdale Road.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene, but has not released ay details yet. They tell us a press release will be sent soon.

CBS 42’s Michael Clark will have a live report from the scene in Clay on the CBS 42 News at 10. This story will be updated as we learn more.
