MULGA, Ala. (WIAT) — Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies discovered an active, mobile meth lab in a van early Wednesday morning.
Deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person in the 200 block of 1st Street. The suspect, Kenneth Carver, was reportedly at an abandoned home cooking methamphetamine.
Upon arrival, officials found Carver inside of a van in the yard of the home. Deputies found meth in his possession. Carver was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, illegal manufacture of a controlled substance, and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities searched the van and discovered a plastic soda bottle that was warm to the touch. Officials determined that this was an active methamphetamine manufacturing process.
Investigators, Fire Service personnel, and a HAZMAT crew were called to the scene. They safely disposed of the chemicals involved in the process.
Carver is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with a total bond of $121,000.
