ENSLEY, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a teenager was shot and killed in Ensley.
The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Terrius Hilliard of Ensley. According to police, the incident happened in the 1700 block of 15th Street Ensley shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Hilliard was found lying on the sidewalk near 18th Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to UAB Hospital where he later died.
Investigators learned that the victim and a friend were walking when a white Dodge Charger pulled up next to them. Someone in the vehicle fired shots at the teenager. Both the victim and his friend ran from the scene and Hilliard collapsed a few blocks away.
Police found multiple shell casings near the scene on 15th Street.
Three persons of interest have been detained. According to Sgt. Shelton, a white Dodge Charger crashed near Avenue I and 35th Street in an attempt to flee from police. The occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot and police later apprehended them in a nearby cemetery.
According to police, the Dodge Charger was stolen out of Birmingham. The persons of interest have been taken to the Administration Building for questioning.
Hilliard attended Jackson-Olin High School in Birmingham. Adrienne Mitchell with the Birmingham School Board tells CBS 42 they have a crisis team working with students who are grieving the loss of their classmate.
