GRAPEVINE, Tex. (WIAT)- Despite having to watch from home on Championship Saturday, the Alabama Crimson Tide have still found themselves in the College Football Playoff. The selection committee picked the Tide No. 4, and facing the No. 1 ranked Clemson Tigers in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Jan. 1 at 7:45pm ct.
This will be the third straight season the Tide and Tigers meet in the post season.
The debate for the final spot was between Alabama and Ohio State. Alabama finished the season 11-1, but did not win their conference championship. Ohio State finished the season 11-2 after beating No. 4 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game Saturday night.
The Buckeyes had better quality wins than the Crimson Tide, with three victories all better than Alabama’s best victory. However, the Buckeyes had two lopsided losses, including one to a 7-5 Iowa team by 31 points. That ultimately was the difference, as the selection committee saw Alabama as the better and more deserving team.
The other semifinal will pit No. 2 Oklahoma and No. 3 Georgia in the Rose Bowl at 4pm ct.
