Alabama fans in Tuscaloosa celebrate the Crimson Tide going to the Sugar Bowl

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama Crimson Tide football fans had plenty to cheer about Sunday morning in Tuscaloosa.

The selection committee picked Alabama to face the number one ranked Clemson Tigers in the Sugar bowl in New Orleans.

Sunday morning, dozens of Alabama fans waited on pins and needles inside Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Tuscaloosa. Ray King says he and his friends were nervous not knowing what to expect.

“It was a lot. I mean, you never know what they’re going to do and lots of people said Ohio State would be there and now that Alabama has showed up, it’s a big relief,” King said.

This will be the third straight season the Tide and Tigers meet in the postseason. Fan Aaron Curren is hoping Alabama will beat Clemson then advance to play in the National Championship game.

“As an Alabama fan, everyone knows Alabama football is number one down here in the south and it’s what everybody loves and everyone is all excited,” Curren said. “I know the Tide will win now that they are in the playoff.”

AAA Alabama is offering travel packages for Alabama fans who need plane tickets, hotels and game tickets. The travel packages will be available to both AAA members and non-members alike.  Spokesperson Clay Ingram says the details and prices will be available Monday.

“We’ve got all these different combinations. If you just need airfare, or airfare and a hotel and tickets, or any combination of those things, we can help you with that,” Clay said. “We even have transfers to the hotel or the stadium and back to the hotel and back to the airport.”

The Sugar Bowl kicks off January 1st in New Orleans at the Superdome.
