BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police are investigating the death of a Birmingham man, according to a release issued by the department.
Police responded to the 3000 block of 29th Court North on a call of a male being shot around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. Officers found 25-year-old Jahbrell Sturgeon dead on the floor of the apartment.
Investigators believe there was a struggle in the apartment before the shooting. Evidence also suggested that another victim may have been injured, but still alive. A short while later, officers learned that a male had been dropped off at an area hospital with a gunshot wound, but it is unclear at this time if that victim has any connection to this incident.
Authorities believe the victim was inside of the apartment with an unknown number of males before the shooting took place. Investigators also found evidence of drug activity, but they cannot confirm that the shooting had a drug-related motive.
“It is truly unthinkable for me to be in my home socializing with someone who plans to kill me. Unfortunately, we have seen this over and over again where the victim knew his killer,” Chief A.C. Roper said. “We need our young men to think about their relationships and social circles since it could very well save their lives.”
If you have any information pertaining to this case, you are asked to call the B.P.D. Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
