FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE DEC. 5, 2017: Fairfield Police Chief Nick Dyer tells CBS 42 one of the parents of the child is in police custody, with charges expected to be released Wednesday.
Dyer says both parents of the brain-dead child are deaf; officers are using interpreters to communicate with them as they investigate what happened.
According to the preliminary investigation, the parents were arguing when the baby was injured. Four other children ranging in age from one to seven years old were in DHR custody after the incident, but are now with family.
ORIGINAL DEC. 4, 2017: A 3-month-old child has been declared brain dead after being abused by an adult, according to Chief Dyer with Fairfield Police.
The initial incident occurred at Mattie T. Jackson Apartments on the 6700 block of Avenue D. The child is currently being treated at Children’s of Alabama.
