Hurricane Otto in the Caribbean
Otto became the seventh hurricane of the 2016 season this afternoon. It’s now picked up a little bit of forward speed, moving west at 2 mph. Winds are at 75 mph, which makes Otto a category one hurricane. Strengthening should continue through Thursday.
Hurricane Watches and Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for parts of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama and Colombia. Otto is forecast to make landfall sometime Thursday near the Costa Rica/Nicaragua border.
We will continue to monitor the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico for further tropical development.
